WHO IS SARAH NICOLE aka THE BIRDS PAPAYA
You may know Sarah for her 100lb weight loss story. Quite possibly, you may know her for her journey into single motherhood or maybe, you know for her adorable squishy faced pug, or perhaps… her gorgeous purple hair. If not, then today you will get to know her!
The name “The Birds Papaya” originates from Sarah’s online Etsy shop which she started when she only had two children, Maya nicknamed “Papaya” and Jemma nicknamed “Birdie”. Even after Sarah’s third child, the name had stuck. I simply love this nickname!
WHAT TRIGGERED SARAH’S WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY
Sarah claims that there were 3 light bulb moments for her. It started after the birth of her third child when herself and her family moved back to her hometown, after many years of living in a faraway city and knowing no-one. The thought of running into her high school friends made her immediately feel uncomfortable and self-conscious of her weight.
The second moment occurred when she had the children out in the new house’s pool, in the scorching heat, and she really wanted to swim with them but immediately withdrew when she realised that her neighbours may see her in a swimsuit. It was becoming something more than a self-esteem issue… she was missing out on memories with her children.
The third and final lightbulb moment – the last flicker that helped her get where she is today, in her weight loss journey. A simple photo that was uploaded to Facebook that made her cringe. A wakeup call that resulted in her very quickly un-tagging herself.
Sarah had enough. She didn’t want to run into friends, she was missing out on her children’s childhood, and finally, she couldn’t even handle the reality of her own image. Ultimately, Sarah felt worn down, tired and ashamed.
And so… began a weight loss journey that has been globally recognised by many. I won’t re-write Sarah’s entire journey as you can read it on her blog , but I will tell you what she learnt from the process.
It was Sarah’s amazing transformation and her positive inspiration to other women that got her on the cover of Oxygen Magazine and deservingly so!
WHAT SARAH LEARNT FROM HER TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY & HER ADVICE TO OTHERS
I found success in something quite unextraordinary. I found my body. The one I was meant to have. The one I now cherish. The one I now fuel, maintain and love. This isn’t a story of just weight loss. This is a story of transformation of the mind, body and soul. One cannot be without the other.
My advice for people struggling with weight is to stop looking for that perfect scenario or plan. Just begin. Even if you don’t know how or why, sometimes just the decision to make the change is all you need to do. Oh, and LOVE yourself every step of the way. There is no final moment that you will suddenly just be satisfied… you need to get there on the INSIDE before you can embrace all of your OUTSIDE.
WHY I CHOSE SARAH FOR MY WOMAN OF THE MONTH FEATURE
Sarah’s body transformation is just the tip of the ice berg..or if you will, the cherry on top. The real reason is because of her positive and inspirational personality. Her ability to deal with whatever life throws at her but also to be open enough to share her problems with the world, to reveal her insecurities and inner troubles. The fact that she is a single mother bringing up three young children. Of course, her gorgeous purple hair that I am slightly (actually very…) obsessed with.
Finally, her ability to engage with her audience. There are many inspirational women on Instagram however many of them don’t acknowledge their followers. Sarah tries her best to respond to her followers with real engagement. She takes the time to get to know her followers and to listen to their stories, acknowledge their compliments and sometimes even has to respond to unnecessary negative or condescending messages.
WHY SARAH BELIEVES THAT SHE IS INSPIRATIONAL TO OTHER WOMEN
My drive to overcome adversity and never let negativity and darkness win. Each day is a new opportunity and every moment is a choice. When you realise that you are not a victim to life, you regain a power you maybe had taken from you. I’ve accomplished more in my season of divorce, single motherhood, working on myself and my career after being a home mom for 10 years.
Things don’t just happen, you hustle. It’s easy to look at someone that appears to have it all and think how nice it must be, but you don’t see what got them there. Ultimately, regardless of the how – I like to celebrate everyone’s victories. There’s room for everyone!
